Hi, I’m Wendy, President and Chief Investment Officer of Ivy Invest. Prior to founding Ivy Invest, I spent over 17 years building and investing portfolios for multi-billion dollar endowments and foundations in New York City.
Endowments and foundations, or as we would refer to ourselves - “E&Fs” - have long held a privileged position even among the broader institutional investor set. E&Fs were early movers into international markets and alternative assets, and they invest their capital in service of a range of admirable missions. Given this combination, E&Fs are well-regarded and sought after as investors by investment firms of all shapes and sizes.
E&Fs are also, generally speaking, a tight knit group of investors who freely share with each other investment ideas, research, and diligence on asset managers. But as open as E&Fs are with each other, we don’t share much with those outside the circle. That’s left a lot of room for speculation on how E&Fs actually invest, and why they do or don’t do certain things.
As the investment universe available to individual investors expands, the experience and knowledge held by E&Fs is more relevant than ever. This newsletter is an attempt to share some of that knowledge with as broad an audience as cares to read it. Ask away, and I will do my best to answer as fully and transparently as I’m able to (keeping in mind the E&F folks are still among my closest friends, and I would never betray anyone’s confidence)!
